Words used throughout the platform and these docs. If a term is not here, search for it; most concepts have a page of their own.
Conference terms
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Committee | A simulated body, such as UNGA-DISEC or a crisis cabinet. Every committee has an agenda, a type and a set of portfolios. Staff create them in committees and the matrix. |
| Committee type | One of STANDARD, CRISIS or PRESS. The type can change the fee, because fees are defined per type. |
| Portfolio | The specific seat you occupy in a committee, usually a country but sometimes a named individual or a press outlet. "Delegate of France" means France is your portfolio. |
| Matrix | The full grid of committees and their portfolios, published at /availability. See reading the portfolio matrix. |
| Allotment | A staff member assigning you a specific portfolio in a specific committee. Until you are allotted you have preferences, but no seat. |
| Double delegation | A committee where each portfolio is held by two people working together. If your first preference is one of these, registration will ask for a partner. See partner or second choice. |
| Co-delegate | Your partner in a double delegation committee. |
| Undertaking | The declaration you tick at the end of registration. |
| Comped | A fee a staff member has waived. The delegate is confirmed without paying. |
| Check-in | Being marked present at the desk on conference day, usually by scanning the QR code on your status page. |
| Waitlisted | Registered, but not currently in line for a seat. Waitlisting is a status a staff member sets; it is not automatic. |
Society and recruitment terms
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Society | The permanent student body that organises the conferences, as opposed to the delegates who attend one. |
| Cycle | One complete recruitment round, from opening applications to selecting members. See the cycle lifecycle. |
| GD | Group discussion. The first evaluated stage, run as a panel with several candidates at once. |
| PI | Personal interview. The second stage, one candidate at a time. |
| Rubric | The named criteria a candidate is scored against, each with a maximum and a weight. Set per cycle. See scoring and the rubric. |
| Bypass | Skipping a candidate past the group discussion straight to interview, with a recorded reason. |
| JC, SC, AC | Junior Council, Senior Council and Administrative Council: the three recruitment roles. See council roles. |
| Dispatch | The society's publication, at /blog. An individual article is also called a dispatch. |
Platform terms
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Operating mode | One of SOCIETY, INTRA_MUN or CONFERENCE. Decides whether a conference is promoted at all, and whether payments apply. See operating modes. |
| Status token | The long random string in your /status/... link. Anyone holding it can see your application, so treat it as private. |
| Application status | Where your registration has got to: REGISTERED, ALLOTTED, PAYMENT_SENT, CONFIRMED, WAITLISTED or CANCELLED. Explained in tracking your application. |
| Quarantine | Where a bad import row goes instead of being thrown away, so it can be corrected and retried. See cross-delegation imports. |
| Activity log | The record of who changed what and when, at /admin/logs. |
| Maintainer / Admin | The two staff roles. Maintainers run the conference; admins can additionally do the guarded, irreversible things. See roles and permissions. |
| Magic link | A one-time sign-in link emailed to you instead of a password. See signing in. |
